  • 3-4 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/4 teaspoons pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 lbs fresh okra


  • Wash okra and cut off tips and end pieces. Cut into 1/4” slices. Sprinkle okra with salt and pepper. Mix flour and cornmeal in large bowl. Roll okra in mixture and sauté okra in hot bacon grease until golden brown.
