Refried Beans

Course Side Dish


  • Dried pinto beans
  • Water to cover
  • 2 to 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 pound Bacon
  • 4 tablespoons bacon grease
  • Salt


  • Rinse beans and place in crock-pot. Cover with water. Add garlic and 1/2 pound of bacon. Cook on low for about 4 hours. Add salt to taste. Cook about another 4 hours or until beans are tender. Drain liquid from beans, reserving 1 cup. Heat 4 tablespoons bacon grease on medium high. Add beans in along with a cup of reserved cooking liquid. Mash the beans (with potato masheuntil they are the consistency of pudding. Add water for consistency. Serve hot.
